Yesterday on the way to work

This was the second time cycling to George Town World Heritage Incorporated office where I am giving my time to help see Phase II of a GIS project through. It's a State-funded project called Integrated Heritage Database System in which the temporal element is key.

On the ferry, you end up with all the motorbikes. So it's tricky riding the bike with the motorbikes almost brushing you, especially if your feet cannot touch the ground. And when there's lots of motorbikes in the morning, there's no room to move on the ferry. But I must say the motorbike riders are pretty disciplined. Almost all switch off their engines while waiting for the ferry so you don't get all the fumes. One or two take a little longer to figure that out.

Below are some panaromic view taken with a smartphone. I was taken by the calmness of the water. The first Penang Bridge on is on the left, Pulau Jerejak is little peak to the left. Will we still be able to see the hills of Penang Island (right) a century from now? Will they become obscured by the Manhattan of Penang, as propositioned by Samy Velllu years ago?

This is one of the many masterpieces coming out of brainstorming sessions at GTWHI, with me at the board.

  1. Nice bike ride, it must provide wonderful serenity to commence the day. Ride to work day here in Adelaide, yesterday. Have a look at Adelaide Cyclists blog for up to moment details about cycling in Adelaide. Regards, Dave.
